CHVRCHESの新曲のご紹介です
4枚目のスタジオ・アルバムとなる待望の新作『Screen Violence』を8月27日にリリースするCHVRCHESが、バンドにとってヒーロー的存在であるTHE CUREのフロントマン、Robert Smithが参加した最新シングル「How Not To Drown」に続く新曲「Good Girls」をアルバムより先行解禁した。
「Good Girls」は『Screen Violence』収録曲の中でも叙情的なトーンを有する楽曲となっている。楽曲中、ヴォーカルのLauren Mayberryはパワフルな歌声で女性蔑視に関して堂々と彼女自身の意見を述べている。Laurenはこのシングルについて次のように語っている。
"憧れの対象を葬り去るのは面倒"という冒頭の歌詞は、友人たちがある問題のある男性アーティストを愛することに対する今の社会で持つ意味合いについて議論しているのを聞いて書いたもの。みんなが自分のヒーローを弁解するためにどれだけのことをするのか、それが私自身の世界での経験とあまりにも対照的であることに衝撃を受けた。女性は常に自分の存在権を正当化し、自分の居場所を確保しなければならない。いい女の子に悪いことは起こらないと言われているし、自分を小さく、安全に、受け入れられるように世間の理想に合わせていれば大丈夫だと言われているけど、それはクソみたいな嘘
